The St Barnabas Chopin Festival (1) - celebrating the 200th anniversary of his birth

We have 38 pianists giving mini-recitals of between 15 and 40 minutes, and covering virtually all of Chopin’s solo piano music in the 2 day festival - over 13 hours of music in total. Full details of all the mini-recitals and biographies of the musicians are available on the festival website. The festival will commence at 1 pm on both days, and continue until 10.15 pm. Regular intervals are built into the programme, and tea and supper will be available. No tickets are needed beforehand. The church is very large and admission is guaranteed. Parking is readily available. The pianists range in age from 18 to 90, and come from a wide musical background, with half of them from overseas. Many are well-known pianists, many have won national and international awards, and all are fine musicians. We have a quality Bösendorfer concert grand piano, which was formerly used by the BBC for Radio 3 broadcasts. The festival will be held ‘in the round’, with the piano situated in the middle of the nave, so that everyone is reasonably close to the pianists. Hearing these different pianists’ approach to this wonderful music will be endlessly fascinating, and will be a unique treat for all ‘pianophiles’ and lovers of Chopin.
